Delhi Government’s remarkable efforts to combat Coronavirus pandemic

Delhi Government seems to be on the forefront to combat Novel Coronavirus (COVID – 19) pandemic more effectively as Central gov. extends lockdown. Government has increased testing rates sharply. Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal regularly briefing Delhi residents over the progress to defeat Coronavirus pandemic almost every day. Even apart from this pandemic where they ensure everyone maintains social distancing & asking suspected patients to home quarantined, they have always been working proactively in all aspects since Arvind Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) got voted to power in Delhi. Whether it is about Pollution issue, Education, Healthcare or providing basic facilities to Delhites, they have proved their remarkable performance over and over again. This is the reason Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and his Aam Aadmi Party was re-elected in the recent Delhi Election in February 2020.

“We are removing the shortcomings and making preparations to deal with a situation of up to 1000 coronavirus test positive per day. I, however, hope that the number of cases will come down in the coming days, “Kejriwal told in a press conference. Apparently, this is the only state government seems fully confident and prepared to battle against the pandemic along with Maharashtra and Kerala government, that is also working tremendously. Otherwise, other state governments and the Central government are not working as effectively as they should do in this pandemic situation.

Arvind Kejriwal formed a committee recently, which is a five-member panel of doctors headed by Dr S.K. Sareen submitted its report, prescribing the standard operating procedures for dealing with the situation involving 100, 500 and up to 1000 new coronavirus patients per day & what is the required tests per million as Delhi has near 20 million population. Mr Kejriwal also added, the food (lunch and breakfast) is being distributed to nearly 2 lakh people and will be doubled the number if needed. Apart from this, the Delhi government has asked the Central government to immediately provide them with all required medical equipment such as N95 mask for doctors, Personal Protective Equipment’s (PPE’s).

As recently, Delhi roads were seen with thousands of Migrants labour gathering going to their hometown and villages amid 21- day lockdown. Hence, the Delhi government is making sure that the people should be stopped in Delhi immediately as the danger of Coronavirus community outbreak will increase if such a large gathering goes their hometowns hundreds of kilometres. Thus, CM announced that the government has opened up its shelter homes across the Delhi for these Migrant labours and they will also be provided foods in the shelter homes. Thus, they do not need to go their hometowns or villages during this lockdown, this does not violate the lockdown only, this also falls their life in danger due to coronavirus threat.

Unambiguously, this is the actual approach people need and admire from their governments to combat the Coronavirus outbreak. The Government is putting best efforts to decrease the death tolls & reviewing the market data every day. The governments are tested through their welfare policies for their citizens and abilities to manage things wisely during a crisis. Citizens of India hope to see more such leaders come up in society and set an example through such a proactive approach to taking care of its citizens. India needs reformations in its politics which is free from caste, creed and region and solely focused on the Good Governance. No doubt, the Delhi government is putting far best efforts than PM Modi’s led Central government.
