Is China-India Military Dispute going to be a Military Conflict?

The Troubles between China and India military brewing along the Himalayas (World’s tallest Mountain range) since last month. India and China both claims this land to be a part of their territory. As per Indian military, Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) troops started incursion at the Pangong Tso lake, located 14,000 feet (4,270 metres) above the sea level in the Himalayan region of Ladakh on 5th May. But, the Indian government says its soldiers stayed back in at its side.

The Standoffs between India and China have been intensifying for a long time with this new Scuffle in the border areas of Pangong Lake and North Sikkim in Ladakh. 1962 Indo-China was ended with no resolution, and there have been many standoffs since 2017 “Doklam” issue. Though, Indian PM Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping held many talks in 2018 and 2019 as well. Both countries share a border of 3500 kilometres which is one of the most massive border sharing in the world. Also, China Rejects Trump’s Mediation Offer On Border Tension with India citing China and India are capable of adequately resolving the issues through dialogue, which China does not want as this Scuffle was initiated from his end.

Chinese Imperialism as World Superpower

If we trace it back to the South Asian regional conflicts, it is a policy of Chinese imperialism. India reported Chinese incursions over the Indo Chinese border even when Xi Jinping was on an official visit to India in 2014. China is frustrated with the Global reaction over COVID – 19, which originated from Wuhan City of China and has nothing to say. Thus, China wants to turn its attention towards the China – India Military Dispute.

On the other side, India is getting closer to the United States of America (USA), which is a concern for China. That is why Beijing wants to send a message to New Delhi. China may have cross border escalation if India gets closer to the United States. Also, it adds to the Heroic image of Xi Jinping as a Nationalist Leader in his country and its Hegemony in South Asia.

Is There a Fair Comparison?

India owns a defence budget of $71 Billion, where China managed to secure $261 Billion being an Economic Superpower. Would there be enough comparison? China should downplay its foreign policy to oppress its neighbours. China has usually been putting claims on Indian territories from the very beginning. It was China who started the 1962 war and after that incursion started from China were traced back in 1967 and 1986 also.

The Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) flared up the tensions between Nations more often. Whether it is about “Doklam”, “Sikkim”, or ongoing Ladakh, India encountered consistent violations from China. Chinese incursions are certainly not possible without the consent of Top Leadership. India cannot take on China on its own, But, a growing strategic relation with U.S and Japan worries China.

The authoritarian attitude of China has been developed over some time as the Global community did not take action over China’s sweeping claims of sovereignty over the South China sea. And the sea’s wealth estimated 11 billion barrels of untapped oil and 190 trillion cubic feet of natural gas – despite having Claimant nations such as Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Taiwan, and Vietnam.

Neither the World Community took action against China on undoing the Autonomous status of Hong Kong, or Nor put Sanctions over its brutality against Uighurs Muslims in Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in Northwest China. Thus, there should be put accountability and sanctions over Chinese Authoritarian regime to prevent people from its oppression and avoid further China – India military disputes.
