Will The Mammoth PDM crumble down Imran Khan Govt.?

The year 2020-21 has been a difficult period for Pakistan where one side Pakistan struggles with its crippling economy. On the other side, the whole opposition stands unified against the PTI led Imran Khan Government.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government’s actions have led to a united opposition force like never before in the country’s history – this is known as Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM). Last year September, 11 major opposition parties collaborated to form the PDM, with a single objective – to topple Imran Khan’s PTI government and restore democracy. This is the first time in the country’s history that all major opposition parties have come together against the current Pakistani establishment, running the country since its independence. It is the first time when Imran khan has elected to Power. The PDM alliance members are demanding the resignation of the Pakistan premier and his top aide Lt Gen (Retd) Asim Saleem Bajwa over allegations of corruption and further announced a three-phased movement against the federal government, including massive nationwide protests including Minar e Pakistan and a ‘decisive long march’ towards Islamabad in the coming months.

Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has termed the 11-party movement against the incumbent government of Imran Khan a ‘jihad’. He urged the people to unite under the umbrella of PDM to oust Imran Khan while calling them as ‘incompetent government’ and restore true democracy in the country and remove the ‘incompetent and selected’ government from power who has falsely stolen the mandate of the people. He added, Charging the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) of acting on the orders of Imran-government he criticised the ongoing accountability process in the country and termed it partial and challenged NAB officials to come and arrest him if they had the courage. Maulana added, NAB was only filing cases against leaders of opposition parties, and it had closed eyes on the corruption of leaders of the incumbent government, reported Dawn.

A Pakistan investigative agency started a probe in a complaint filed against (PDM) Chief Maulana Rehman for illegally buying expensive land, hours before opposition parties under the banner of the PDM are scheduled to hold an anti-government rally in Lahore. According to Geo News, the complaint has asserted that the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Rehman was given 64 kanal government-owned land after former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif closed the general transport service department.

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) – Pakistan Investigative Agency on Saturday started an investigation in the complaint. The NAB source said land worth Rs 14 million was illegally given to the JUI-F for Rs 4 million only. The JUI-F is questioning the timing of the investigation. It comes just hours before the sixth Jalsa by the PDM against Prime Minister Imran Khan government. Imran Khan had warned the opposition of legal consequences if the rally was organised. JUI-F Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Senator Mr Rehman told Geo News that the complaint is a lie and nothing will come of this complaint.
